Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a regulated primary healthcare profession. Chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, and muscles), as well as the effects these disorders can have on nervous system and general health.

Chiropractors use a range of techniques to reduce pain, improve function and increase mobility, including hands-on manipulation of the spine. Treatment helps to restore natural movement that has been lost through minor sport injury, degenerative changes or poor posture – and is particularly effective in treating back and neck pain.

Dry needling / Medical acupuncture

Dry needling or medical acupuncture is a treatment technique that uses very fine, single use needles to help break up painful knots in muscles to help decrease pain and improve mobility and function. Muscle tension is common with conditions such as muscle strain and injuries, tension headaches and lower back pain.  Dry needling is frequently used as part of the package of care we offer to patients. All of our chiropractors have Dry needling / medical acupuncture qualifications.

Taping

Taping techniques involve placing strips of special tape on your body in specific directions to help support your joints, like a knee, ankle, or wrist, as well as muscles and tendons. Research has shown that it may help to reduce pain and muscle spasm, improve circulation and lymph transport and improve function and overall performance. Taping is also part of our chiropractic care.

Cupping

Cupping is a therapy that involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. It is thought that this can increase blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cellular repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. Studies in 2015 and 2018 found that cupping may provide some relief for chronic neck or back pain.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation

Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation is simple non-invasive treatment that is aimed to manipulate and mobilise the soft tissues of the body, such as muscles and tendons. We use handheld fascial tools to stimulate blood flow, help relieve muscle pain and discomfort and improve overall mobility and function. It is often used in conjunction with deep tissue massage techniques, medical acupuncture and cupping therapy.

Rehabilitative Exercises

In the right dose, physical activity can help to prevent, treat, and manage a range of health conditions that may impact the quality of life and physical function.

We prescribe safe and effective exercises that encourage your body to recruit or fire the right muscles to keep you moving and achieving your goals while relieving your pain. We want the muscles function better and interact to achieve movement and better mobility. These may include a combination of stretching, strengthening, proprioceptive or ELDOA based exercises depending on your issue and outcome goals.

Webster Technique

One of the most common concerns during pregnancy is back pain. Indeed, it’s supposed that over half of all
women suffer from is lumbopelvic pain (pain in the lower back and/or back of the pelvis).

These conditions often happen due to problems with how the muscles and joints of the back and the pelvis
are working. There may be:

• Uneven movement of the joints of the lower back or pelvis
• Weakening of the tummy, buttocks, inner thigh and pelvic floor muscles. This puts more stress and
strain on the joints of the lower back and pelvis.
• A previous injury of the lower back or pelvis
• Occasionally pain can be due to the position of your baby. As your baby grows in the womb, the extra
weight and the change in the way you sit or stand will put more strain on your pelvis.
• For a small number of women, pain is due to the hormonal changes
Webster technique is a gentle chiropractic adjustment that may also help with lower back pain during
pregnancy.

The technique includes soft tissue release which may help to improve the uneven movement in
the pelvic muscles, ligaments, and bones.
Webster technique aims to optimise lumbopelvic balance and muscle tone and so allowing for greater
comfort for the mother.

If you are suffering from back lumbopelvic pain following simple measures may help:

• keeping active but also getting plenty of rest
• standing tall with your bump and bottom tucked in a little
• changing your position frequently – try not to sit for more than 30 minutes at a time
• sitting to get dressed and undressed
• putting equal weight on each leg when you stand
• trying to keep your legs together when getting in and out of the car
• lying on the less painful side while sleeping
• keeping your knees together when turning over in bed
• using a pillow under your bump and between your legs for extra support in bed.
• Hands on treatment to gently mobilise the joint and have them move normally again.

When you attend the clinic, we’ll make sure you’re as comfortable as possible, adjusting the table to accommodate your growing belly. Treatment is very gentle and our chiropractors use specific techniques to help and alleviate pain and discomfort during pregnancy without placing any pressure on your abdomen. We also hope to help and encourage an easier delivery! Our aim is to provide a high level of care throughout to ensure your comfort and safety during pregnancy and once your little one has arrived.

Babies & Children

The arrival of a new born is one all new parents look forward to. However, for some it may be fraught with difficulties as often a baby doesn’t sleep, cries a lot and may have feeding or digestive problems. Additionally the repercussions following birth can be a struggle for both mother and infant long after.

All our Chiropractors have completed extra training in paediatric care, and are very experienced in treating children of all ages. The techniques we use are both gentle and suitable for babies and we find that most children love to be adjusted. We work along side a number of allied health professionals, including: Midwives, Obstetricians, Doulas, NCT practitioners, and Health Visitors to provide the most appropriate care for your child.

We begin by taking a thorough history of your baby, including factors such as maternal and family history, labour, feeding and sleeping habits, and developmental milestones which can influence your child’s health. This will be followed by a comprehensive physical examination consisting of orthopaedic and neurological tests and a developmental evaluation. It is this thorough approach to examination that allows us to identify the factors that may be influencing your child’s health.

If further testing is required, we can refer your child swiftly and efficiently to an appropriate specialist for such investigation.
